October Book Reviews
A Fate Inked in Blood by Danielle L. Jensen 5/5 Stars
One of those books that I loved so much I don’t know what to say about it. I read a physical copy in two days which is not easy for me. Can’t wait for book 2!!
The Wild Huntress by Emily Lloyd-Jones 4/5 Stars
This book follows Branwen, Gwydion, and Pryderi as they work together in the wild hunt after they realize their ambitions align. I really enjoyed The Wild Huntress, enough to start another book in the same world, The Bone Houses. I liked The Bone Houses a lot more, but in it it mentions the lore of Branwen and Gwydion so I wonder if it would have been more meaningful if the Bone Houses would have been read first. Either way, I recommend both books and love how easy it is to slip into this world.
The Bone Houses by Emily Lloyd-Jones 4/5 Stars
I love an adventure story and this is a great October read. Ellis leaves a little bit to be desired but his meekness works well with Ryn’s strong drive and determination. There are a few endearing little details in this book that make it special, my most favorite of them being Bone Goat. This is listed as YA but it doesn’t feel extremely YA to me, so I’d suggest giving it a try even if YA is not your thing.
The Stone Witch of Florence by Anna Rasche 4/5 Stars
Overall I thought that The Stone Witch of Florence was an enjoyable book. There’s a lot of interesting thoughts about the effect of Christianity on pagan or heathen religion. I really liked that Ginevra’s gift is working with gemstones and the author used that in interesting ways throughout the story; a lot of the time I feel you have this interesting aspect but it is only mentioned a few times. This is prevalent throughout and quite a driving force of the story. There was a bit of repetitiveness in the story, mostly to do with Ginevra being thwarted (can’t this woman catch a break!?) but still enjoyed it.
I was given a copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas 4/5 Stars
This was my second time reading this book, the first time being eight years prior. I liked this book but I didn’t love it and I can see why I didn’t bother to read the next book in the series. I think this time around I was in more of a mood to read more fairy smut and I continued with the series. So my review about the first book is to say this is a set up for an incredible story and you cannot have the the moving experience of the second book with first reading this one. So unless you absolutely hated everything about this book, please go on to read A Court of Mist and Fury.
