Ghosters 3: Secrets of the Bloody Tower by Diana Corbitt 4/5 Stars
This is a great example of a middle-grade beach read. It is fun and interesting (even for an adult!) without being heavy. While Kerry, Theresa, and Joey do take risks, they do so in smart and responsible ways and really think about something before they do it. This book mostly takes place in London and the feel of the city really came through. I highly recommend this book and will definitely buy others for my daughter when she’s old enough.

Lost and Found in Paris by Lian Dolan 5/5 Stars
There are a lot of interesting aspects to this book: growing up with celebrity parents, romance, heartbreak, travel, the art world, a small scene about F1, France. I never thought I’d see so many interests combined in one book and thought they were combined beautifully to make it feel like a lighter beach read but with substance and intrigue. Basically, I flew through the book and was captivated the whole time yet it didn’t feel heavy. I loved following Joan throughout Paris. And it made me think about a book I’ve wanted to write for a few years.

Elsewhere by Alexis Schaitkin 5/5 Stars
Elsewhere is a hauntingly beautiful story of home, motherhood, and duty. I am in love with the rich details of the town and community where Vera is from. The book feels like a complete story to me yet I revel in the smaller incomplete memories that form Vera’s life. My senses carried me through the pages: the dampness of the air that grew moss on every surface; the richness of a broth in a new city; the smell in the air that told a woman who had never been to the coast that she was nearing the ocean; the fierceness that made a mother run rather than disappear so that she could would still be alive to continue the act of loving her daughter. I would only recommend this book if you can appreciate not having all the answers (I love this because it’s more like life — we don’t always get all the answers). This book is a work of art.
