Boston

Boston

Like the rest of New England, Boston really surprised me. It is such a beautiful, clean, walkable city. We only had one day there but I feel like we really did as much as we possibly could. I barely made it back to the apartment because we had walked so much. Highlights include: dinner at Mamma Maria, walking the Freedom Trail, the Granary Burying Ground, visiting the USS Constitution, and walking along Newbury Street. Thankfully Joe likes Boston and New…

New England in October

New England in October

Oh, New England! I had no idea of the charms and wonders that were waiting for me here. It’s a lot like the South but… nicer? Okay okay, I didn’t see nearly as much of New England as I’ve seen of the South. If it weren’t for those awful winters I’d be sending Joe job listings. It was unseasonably warm (I’m not complaining, for once) so there wasn’t the flood of fall leaf colors we were thinking we’d see.Food highlights…

New York City

New York City

New York City is unlike any place I’ve ever been. Leading up to the trip, Joe kept telling me how surreal it would be to see it in person after seeing it in movies and on t.v. my whole life and I didn’t really get what he meant until I was there. Sure, I’ve been to Paris several times and I get that heart-stopping feeling every time I see the Eiffel Tower, but that feels like a part of me…

Oakland Cemetery and Atlanta

Oakland Cemetery and Atlanta

Oakland Cemetery is a beautiful deathstination (thank you Caitlin Doughty for that word). Not only are there unique headstones and beautiful landscaping on a lot of ground, but there is a gift shop. Why don’t all cemeteries have gift shops? Do they not know how much money I would spend at each and every one? This time I purchased Ghost Cats of the South (the only thing that would scream “me” more would have to be Cooking with Ghost Parisian Cats…

New Orleans and the drive there

New Orleans and the drive there

In September two friends and I went to NOLA Storycon in, well, New Orleans. They live in Atlanta so I flew there and we drove to New Orleans, enabling me to check a new state off my list: Alabama. Since these are my travel and shopping buddies, of course we had to stop at the outlet mall outside of Birmingham. It was a great success, as well as the lunch pit stop at Yo Mama’s in Birmingham. I’d move there…

Florida 2016

Florida 2016

Oh, Florida. This is the last of the posts for this trip and it makes me feel like I need to go back. I love the sunshine, water, the incredible views of both, St. Augustine, old graveyards, Spanish moss, alligators, Disney, the food (Maple Street Biscuit Co and Harry’s…omg), the family. It just feels like home to me and I’ve missed it since we moved away when I was 10. Kayaking the canal behind my parent’s house was the most…

Kennedy Space Center

Kennedy Space Center

We almost didn’t stop here because of the outrageous cost to get in but I’m so glad we did. We were able to save a few bucks by buying tickets at the hotel we stayed at the night before and you definitely need an entire day to see everything. Two pictures up from the bottom is a space shuttle launch pad and the fence around it is curved outward because alligators can climb chain link fences. I did not know…

Key West, FL

Key West, FL

On the morning of writing this post I had to scrape ice off my car. In APRIL. And it’s so cold in my house that the butter on my kitchen counter won’t soften. How am I supposed to do anything, involving butter or not, if the butter on my counter won’t get soft? I feel like I really got stuck on the wrong side of global warming. So because of these things, it was both dreamy and painful to look…

Ernest Hemingway Home in Key West

Ernest Hemingway Home in Key West

The Ernest Hemingway Home is so high up on my list of favorite attractions I’ve visited that it just might be at the very top. The beautiful house is on a large, lush space of land that is larger that you’re used to finding in the relatively small town of Key West. And that pool! He also used to have a cat walk that ran from the upper floor of the back porch on the house out to his writing…

Chicago!

Chicago!

Back in April I went on a work trip to Wisconsin and Illinois for the 10-year-anniversary of the company I work for. I never thought I would ever have a job that I would get to travel with and while my job, per se, doesn’t involve travel, the company is based in Wisconsin and I work in a satellite office. I flew out there for a week of training and I went again in April. It looks like I’ll be…
